Lilian Marrero holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Florida International University. With over a decade of experience, she has managed and delivered increasingly complex civil engineering and water resources projects. Her extensive background encompasses various roles, spanning health and safety, sustainable infrastructure planning, design, permitting, and implementation for water and wastewater facilities focused in integrating solutions to address operational needs while proactively mitigating the effects of climate change, including projected sea level rise, to foster resilient infrastructure.

Currently serving as a Project Manager at Gannett Fleming, Marrero oversees the design of numerous flood control pump stations in South Florida and leads mechanical design for water treatment plant projects nationwide. Her experience extends to engineering studies, contract drawings, technical specifications, regulatory compliance, and coordination of multi-disciplinary design teams. Prior to joining private consulting, she was a fellow at FIU’s Applied Research Center Department of Energy Workforce Development Program and worked for the FIU NASA WaterSCAPES Program. Actively engaged in industry advancement, Marrero serves as a member of FIU’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Department Advisory Board and as the Young Professional Liaison for the Florida Water and Environment Association South Florida Chapter.
