Cora Martinez-Franklin is a Mechanical Engineer from Universidad Simon Bolivar, Venezuela, with a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a PhD in Civil Engineering from Florida International University. Her Ph.D. dissertation research was in the field of computational modeling of rainfall-triggered mud and debris flows along irregular slopes. Previously, her research has been focused in the stress analysis of complex pipeline systems, using finite element method, including analysis of buried pipelines working at high temperatures and analysis of submarine pipelines during laying operations. She has an extensive experience in the development of numerical models in Finite Element and Finite Difference Methods, and their application in engineering problems, including fluids, geotechnical and structural problems. She is a CEE faculty member since January 2010 and she was also member of the faculty of Universidad Simon Bolivar, Venezuela, for fifteen years.
