We are thrilled to announce that Professor Arindam Gan Chowdhury from Florida International University (FIU), Miami, USA, has been invited to deliver a guest lecture at the Inauguration of the Student Chapter at IIT Delhi. The event is scheduled for December 8, 2023, starting from 10:00 AM onwards at the Committee Room, Civil Engineering Department, Block IV, First Floor, IIT Delhi.
Abstract of the Guest Lecture: Professor Chowdhury will delve into the United States’ experience with hurricanes and the role of the WOW facility in mitigating hurricane-related damage. The talk will cover case studies, applications of Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) for Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) research, education, and outreach efforts at the WOW. Additionally, opportunities for faculty research collaboration and recruitment of graduate students will be explored.
🚀 Looking Towards the Future: NICHE Facility The lecture will also touch upon the design efforts for the National Full-Scale Testing Infrastructure for Community Hardening in Extreme Wind, Surge, and Wave Events (NICHE). This new facility aims to address high-priority scientific questions related to the impact of increasing storm risks on civil infrastructure.
