Dr. David Garber is an Associate Professor and Interim Chair in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Florida International University (FIU) and Co-Director of the Accelerated Bridge Construction University Transportation Center. Dr. Garber obtained his BSc from Johns Hopkins University and MS and PhD from the University of Texas at Austin. His research has been focused in the behavior and design of prestressed and reinforced concrete members and accelerated bridge construction.
He has led large-scale experimental and analytical efforts investigating connections between precast concrete members, ultra-high performance concrete, prestressed concrete sections for short-span bridges, non-traditional shear failures in prestressed concrete bridge girders, serviceability and ultimate strength of prestressed girders with self-consolidating concrete, prestress losses in pretensioned bridge girders, and behavior of inclined struts in deep beams sponsored by federal and state agencies and industry. He has been involved in the development of recommendations and code specifications that have been implemented into state and national standards. Dr. Garber is an active member of the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI), serving on several committees. Dr. Garber received the 2021 Educator of the Year award for his contributions to the precast industry in teaching and research.
