The Miami Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is an independent agency of the City of Miami tasked with growing, strengthening and promoting the economic health and vitality of downtown Miami.
The Miami DDA has an immediate opening for a research intern in GIS and research.
We will be conducting a series of GIS data development, map analysis, and cartography projects. Additionally, the section conducts economic research across a number of topics, including real estate, employment, transportation, and the like. The work will include mapping, digitization, ground-truthing, secondary data analysis and policy research.
The most qualified applicants will be current or recent graduate students in public administration, urban planning, economics, or business and would have completed relevant GIS and research methods courses at the graduate level. Candidates should have an interest in local government, business development, urban planning, and market research. They should be keenly interested in advancing their skills in GIS, data management, and researching. Desired skills include geographic data creation, metadata, 3D mapping (CityEngine), organization and professionalism, and coherent report writing. Candidates must be skilled with ArcGIS, with exposure to Excel; Access and database skills are highly desired.
The intern will be expected to report to the office of the Miami DDA for ~25 hours per week (may be adjusted based on project workload). The internship will run from February 2014 – July 2014. The position is budgeted to pay $10.00–$13.00/hr DOQ and includes a public transportation pass or parking pass.
