The 2013 ASCE Southeast Student Conference is right around the corner, beginning on March 14. And this year it’s happening… right around the corner, with three full days of activities taking place in our very own Miami, Florida.
ASCE Southeast Student Conference
March 14 -16, 2013
For event schedule, visit www.ascesoutheastconference2013.com.
Jointly hosted by FIU and the University of Miami, this year’s ASCE Southeast Student Conference will be attended by representatives of over 20 universities from the southeastern region of the continental U.S. and Puerto Rico. Around 1,000 students are expected to attend, and the organizers need your help to ensure that the event is a success.
The conference, taking place from March 14-16, will consist of 15 civil engineering competitions, several business or networking events, paper presentations, and an awards ceremony. The activities will span much of the Greater Miami area over the three day period, happening on Thursday, March 14 at UM’s main campus in Coral Gables; on Friday, March 15 at FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique and Engineering Center campuses; and on Saturday, March 16 at Tropical Park and, later, Jungle Island.
Student volunteers are still needed to help with events in all locations on all three days. Volunteers will be performing such duties as controlling traffic flow, guiding visitors to event locations, and loading or unloading materials.
If you or members of your student group are interested in volunteering, contact Dania Castillo, FIU’s ASCE 2013 Conference Chair, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Additionally, new sponsors are still being welcomed; contact Dania or visit the event website for more information on sponsorship packages.
If you’re interested in attending the conference, head to www.ascesoutheastconference2013.com to view the full conference itinerary. Consider heading to Saturday’s events from 9 am to 3:30 pm at Tropical Park, where there will be plenty of space available for parking and spectating, and where the crowd-pleasing Concrete Canoe competition will be taking place over the course of the day.
(Please note: Certain events – including the lunches and awards banquet – are only available to registered students, volunteers, judges or sponsors.)
The ASCE Southeast Student Conference will be a great showcase for FIU, the CEE department and the FIU ASCE Student Chapter. Show your support by signing up to volunteer!
